Heisler Park Engagement Session
SARAH & AARON
- First location: Riley Wilderness Park in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA
- Second location: Heisler Park in Laguna Beach, CA
I first heard from Sarah and Aaron back in November last year after they found me online. We had a Skype meeting in December to chat a little more and get to know one another, and I was honored that they selected me to capture not only their wedding later this fall, but also this Heisler Park engagement session.
They’ve been dating for nine years, having met in their early college years and maintaining a long-distance relationship while Sarah was studying at UCI and Aaron was at UCSD. He popped the question last year during a surprise proposal in Las Vegas and they were planning to tie the knot at the Ebell Club in Long Beach.

We began the afternoon at a coffee shop in Rancho Santa Margarita and it was wonderful to finally meet Sarah and Aaron in person and get to know them a bit better. They both have a love of travel and the outdoors, so there was an instant connection between us.
We then drove into Riley Wilderness Park to take advantage of its gorgeous natural features, including sprawling trees and lush, grassy fields. I captured warm embraces and tender moments between Sarah and Aaron as we explored the walking trails during this Riley Wilderness Park engagement session, making the most of the magical diffuse lighting. Part way through they changed outfits, with Sarah in a bold red dress that stood out brilliantly against the green backdrops.

It was then around a thirty minute drive over to the residential area of Laguna Beach and Heisler Park which sits atop a cliff overlooking the beach. I grabbed a silhouette of the couple standing within the gazebo here before we headed down onto the sands. It was a little cloudy by this stage so we didn’t get the golden sunset light we were hoping for, but the couple made up for it by bringing a lot of personality and love to the images.
Sarah and Aaron were real sports, willing to get wet playing in the waters of the Pacific Ocean and standing on the rocky outcrops at the edge of the beach. I captured both close up portraits and an elevated wide-angle looking down as they embraced within a shallow rock pool.
I really can’t thank Sarah and Aaron enough for trusting me to capture this Heisler Park engagement session and the love they have for one another. I’m looking forward to seeing them again in the fall for their Long Beach wedding at the Ebell Club.
