5 Tips To Having Beautiful E-Session Photos While Social Distancing

Want to celebrate your love but worried about having an e-session during the coronavirus pandemic? Read on to discover 5 tips for capturing beautiful engagement session photos while following social distancing rules.

Trying to plan an e-session in the age of social distancing? In this article, we’ll share with you 5 tips for capturing beautiful engagement session photos while following all rules, ensuring that you and those around you stay healthy and safe.

So it turns out 2020 has thrown everyone’s plans up in the air! If you’ve recently become engaged, chances are you’re bursting at the seems to celebrate your love and capture some special portraits to use for your “save the date”. But how can you have a successful engagement session in light of the current restrictions and social distancing rules? In this article, we’ll share with you 5 tips for capturing beautiful images while ensuring everyone stays safe.

1. Embrace the “social distancing” theme.

Rather than going out of your way to avoid the topic of coronavirus and how it’s impacted your engagement celebrations, why not make it a central theme in your e-session. Don your masks for a playful shot as you stand an appropriate distance from your spouse or capture portraits as one of you blows a kiss while the other rejects it (purely for health and safety reasons). With a little imagination, there are plenty of creative ways you can incorporate social distancing into your engagement session, ensuring your portraits aren’t like any of your family or friends. Think about it – it’s highly unlikely you’ll experience another pandemic in your lifetime and capturing a few COVID-themed portraits will be something you can share with your grandchildren many years down the track.

2. Be selective about your shooting locations.

It’s no secret that the most popular e-session locations can get incredibly busy and it takes skill from photographers to capture clean shots without people in the background. But now, more than ever, it’s important to select destinations that aren’t overly crowded to ensure everyone can maintain the space they need to stay safe and healthy. So rather than opting for those go-to beaches or parks that you’ve seen in thousands of e-sessions before, it’s time to get creative in finding little-known gems and off-the-beaten-track locales. Consider a walking trail where people aren’t gathering to socialize or an out-of-the-way town that doesn’t receive many day-trippers. Just because it hasn’t become famous on Instagram doesn’t mean it isn’t overflowing with e-session potential.

3. Avoid shooting on the weekends.

If your work, study, and family commitments allow, try and avoid scheduling your e-session on a weekend when public parks and popular urban areas are much more likely to attract crowds. Perhaps you’re able to knock off work a couple of hours early for a mid-afternoon to sunset e-session during the week when other people are less likely to be out and about. Not only will this make adhering to social distancing rules much easier, but you’ll be able to capture beautiful, clean images without another person in sight.

4. Check the current regulations.

The rules and regulations surrounding Covid-19 are changing all the time, with a gradual easing of restrictions seeing parks and businesses beginning to open up once again. Before you head out to shoot your e-session, make sure you double-check what is and isn’t open, as well as what kind of gatherings are and aren’t allowed. You don’t want to spend all that time organizing outfits, having your hair and makeup done, and driving to locations, only to discover they aren’t yet accessible to the public.

5. Stay at home.

If 2020 had a motto, it would probably be “Stay at home”. So why not embrace this and have a home-based engagement session doing all the things you love with your future spouse. With just you and your photographer, you can easily maintain social distancing rules while capturing shots of you cooking together, relaxing with your pet(s), or just doing whatever you like to do as a couple in your downtime. Such a personalized e-session will offer your family and friends an insight into life behind-the-scenes and the simple pleasures of being together that made you fall in love in the first place.
