Griffith Observatory Engagement Session

VI & JAMES

Locations:

Griffith Observatory engagement session photos:

Vi and James discovered my engagement and wedding photography work online and it was a pleasure to meet up with them at my studio in Downtown Long Beach. They were such a sweet couple and decided to book me on the spot, not only as their wedding photographer but also to capture this Griffith Observatory engagement session.

They both actually live out in the Vegas area, but as Vi’s family and some of James’ family live in Southern California, they were planning a big wedding day celebration here. They also wanted to have their engagement session at a range of locations in and around Los Angeles, starting in Downtown Los Angeles, then Union Station and also at the Griffith Observatory.

Walt Disney Concert Hall engagement session photos:

We met up on the day of their scheduled e-session in Downtown Los Angeles and utilized some of my favorite architectural locations for this urban-themed photo shoot. I captured photos of them embracing behind a fountain at the MOCA Building and a reflective shot along one of its walls, as well as in the midst of the metallic architecture of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. We also snuck into a music school which had some really dramatic lighting to work with and took some portraits against a stunning reflective pool.

Union Station engagement session photos:

We then headed over to Union Station which has a really vintage vibe, and were lucky that it was relatively quiet with not so many commuters coming and going. I got creative with some artistically-lit portraits within one of the waiting areas, as well as captured some tender moments between the couple in close-up portraits.

Griffith Observatory engagement session photos:

As the sun began sinking towards the horizon, we made the 20 minute drive up into the Los Angeles hills for a Griffith Observatory engagement session. This famous landmark has fantastic views back across the city and we got lucky with a spectacular sunset. I captured a few silhouette portraits of Liv and James from this elevated position, as well as a creative sunburst shot.

Downtown Los Angeles engagement session photos:

We ended the e-session back in Downtown Los Angeles with a nighttime portrait session at the Department of Water and Power building and the Dorothy Pavilion. Liv and James changed into elegant formal attire for some portraits in front of a beautifully-lit fountain, as well as backed by the skyscraper lights of Los Angeles.

It was such a pleasure spending the day with Liv and James for this fun-filled e-session and I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with them again for their wedding this summer. They are planning a Catholic church ceremony, followed by a big celebration at the Taglyan Cultural Complex with their family and friends.
