Rodeo Beach Engagement Session

Rodeo Beach engagement session photos:

Julia and Alex were referred to me by a friend of mine, Brooke Avishay from Orange Blossom Special Events who is the wedding planner for their celebrations next summer at Santa Monica’s Shutters on the Beach. But Julia is actually based in the Bay Area while Alex lives in Australia, so they were flying me up to capture this Rodeo Beach engagement session while Alex was in town. This was a real honor for me as Julia had booked me over the phone and trusted in my work although she’d never met me in person.

Embarcadero engagement session photos:

It was such a pleasure to meet Julia and Alex when they picked me up from San Francisco International Airport and drove me back to their apartment in the Embarcadero area. We started with a few lifestyle shots of them in their home, mixing it up with both work and play. I captured a fun one of them hiding beneath the dining table together, as well as one of them both at their laptops, hard at work.

We then headed out into the streets of Embarcadero and to a nearby shopping area. It was a weekday and quite busy, but we were able to utilize the hustle and bustle to our advantage. We got creative with some portraits outside a grocery store and at a famous oyster restaurant there, then headed over to the Bay Bridge to incorporate this impressive steel structure.

Muir Woods National Monument engagement session photos:

Our second destination for the afternoon was the Muir Woods National Monument in Mill Valley which is a really spectacular natural space. There are plenty of walking trails to explore surrounded by huge trees, as well as rustic benches and bridges which we incorporated into this nature-themed e-session.

Rodeo Beach engagement session photos:

As the atmospheric late afternoon light set in, we headed towards the coast and in particular Rodeo Beach in Sausalito. Its grassy fields were perfect for some whimsical shots of Julia and Alex embracing, while the sunset itself provided an idyllic backdrop for some silhouettes. Alex really loves basketball, so we also incorporated a basketball prop into one shot, while Julia climbed atop his shoulders and playfully covered his eyes in another.

As they drove me back towards the airport, we made one final stop at a viewpoint overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and grabbed a couple of portraits incorporating this iconic Bay Area landmark.

Rodeo Beach engagement session photos:

One of the things I really love about Bay Area engagement sessions is the opportunity to spend time really getting to know the couple as we drive between locations. This was no exception during Julia and Alex’s Rodeo Beach engagement session and I’m looking forward to seeing them again soon when they come down my way for their Santa Monica wedding.
