Top 7 Places To Have Your Engagement Session In Orange County

Introduction

Planning an engagement session in Orange County? Here are our top 7 locations to capture your love. Southern California is brimming with gorgeous e-session locations, from natural parks to urban landmarks and beautiful beaches. Los Angelites aren’t restricted to the city limits either, with Orange County offering an alluring selection of destinations that shouldn’t be overlooked. So to help inspire you, we’ve put together 7 of the top places to have your engagement session in Orange County.

Once the dust has settled following your engagement announcement, it’s time to start planning your e-session. It’s a great way to document your love (and have some pics for your save-the-date), as well as serving as a practice run with your wedding photographer to ensure you feel comfortable in front of the camera before your special day.

To help inspire you, we’ve selected 7 of our favorite places to have an engagement session in Orange County. With its long stretch of Pacific coastline, there are plenty of oceanside locations offering magnificent sunsets, as well as destinations for nature, architecture, and history buffs too.

1. Newport Beach

Newport Beach is Orange County’s (slightly smaller) answer to Santa Monica, with an attractive oceanfront setting, a long wooden pier, and a small amusement park to boot. It’s perfect if you want that “lazy-day at the beach with your love” feel to your e-session, including colorful arcade games, magnificent sunsets, and even a mini Ferris wheel. Keep in mind that it gets incredibly busy during the summer months (especially on weekends) so plan your engagement session in Orange County accordingly!

2. San Juan Capistrano

With gorgeous stone pillars, an atmospheric courtyard, and plenty of old-world charm, the San Juan Capistrano Mission is one of Orange County’s most romantic engagement session locations. It’s just a short stroll from the San Juan Capistrano Station, which is equally evocative with its old brick buildings, and the adjacent Los Rios District has plenty of cute cafes and art galleries for a mini urban shoot.

3. Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach is another great location for an engagement session in Orange County if you’re after a coastal setting. It combines a lengthy pier and long stretch of sand with one of the most picturesque urban parks in the region. Begin in the mid-afternoon with a stroll through Huntington Beach Central Park where you can capture portraits along the meandering trails that are framed by tall trees and lake views, then make a bee-line for the beach to watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

4. Segerstrom Center For The Arts

Situated in Costa Mesa (just across the road from the South Coast Plaza), the Segerstrom Center for the Arts is ideal for couples who want a striking architectural backdrop. Think strong lines and textured walls that will give your shots a minimalist feel, as well as a touch of leafy greenery thrown in. The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is undeniably eye-catching during the day but we particularly like shooting here when it’s dramatically illuminated after dark.

5. Heisler Park Beach

Situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Heisler Park is perfect for a sunset engagement session in Orange County. Aside from the large gazebo that’s great for silhouettes, you can also wander down to the beach below for a splash in the water. There are various coves you can choose from if you want to escape the crowds, as well as exposed rocks being washed by waves for couples who aren’t afraid to get a little wet.

6. Riley Wilderness Park

With its sprawling oak trees, fields of tall grasses and golden hills, the Riley Wilderness Park is a go-to spot for couples wanting a nature-inspired engagement session in Orange County. It’s particularly atmospheric during the mid-afternoon when the light streaming through the trees creates a whimsical feel. The Riley Wilderness Park is also conveniently located close to the coast, so you can easily make a quick drive over for a sunset shoot in Laguna Beach to end the day.

7. Victoria Beach, Laguna Beach

Speaking of Laguna Beach, one of the most popular places for e-sessions in this upmarket neighborhood is beautiful Victoria Beach, which boasts its very own tower for a dash of fairytale-style romance. The sunsets are to die for and the tide pools add another element to its coastal beauty. Keep in mind that the tide levels will determine whether the pools are exposed or not, so plan ahead if this is important to you.
