Capturing all the love and emotion of Doris and Steven's special day with a selection of wedding photos at City Club LA. We photographed the couple getting ready in separate suites at this contemporary urban hotel before an emotional first look in the courtyard outside. Doris and Steven then walked down the aisle during a private club wedding ceremony before celebrating with their family and friends during a lively reception overlooking the Los Angeles city skyline.

Wedding photos at City Club LA:
It was Doris’ maid-of-honor who found me online and referred me to the bride-to-be and her groom, Steven, and I was thrilled that they selected me to capture their wedding at City Club LA. I’ve photographed at this sophisticated inner-city private club before. But they’d since moved to another location in Downtown LA on the 52nd floor of a towering skyscraper, so I was excited to have the opportunity to work in this newly-designed setting.
Getting ready photos at City Club LA:
Everything was happening in the one location for Doris and Steven’s wedding at City Club LA, with my second photographer in one suite with the boys as they were making their final preparations, while I was with the girls.
I photographed Doris having the final touches done to her makeup and as her bridesmaids helped to “fluff” her gorgeous gown. Then I photographed them making a champagne toast before capturing a few portraits of the bride alone looking absolutely radiant.
Pre-ceremony portraits at City Club LA:
It was then time for the first look between Doris and Steven, which we were staging in a modern plaza outside the ground floor entrance to City Club LA. I photographed Doris walking towards Steven, with the urban setting being reflected in the glass walls behind. Then I captured the couples’ reactions at seeing each other in this special moment, with Steven wiping away a few tears as the emotion took over.
We had scheduled in some couple portraits and bridal party portraits, utilizing a striking red sculptural fountain nearby. I captured intimate embraces and romantic moments as the couple walked hand-in-hand, then grabbed some more playful bridal party portraits of the bridesmaids pretending to knock the boys with their bouquets.
Ceremony photos at City Club LA:
Everyone headed back up to the 52nd floor where the private club ceremony venue of City Club LA is located, which had been decorated in a really classic style with white drapery and a chandelier. Doris’ father escorted her down the aisle to a waiting Steven, with each of the couple supported by six bridesmaids and six groomsmen.
I tried to capture not only the reactions of the couple as they exchanged vows and rings, but also their parents as they proudly watched on. Doris and Steven paid respect to their moms during the ceremony by offering bouquets of flowers before making a joyous recessional walk as “husband and wife”.
Reception photos at City Club LA:
While everyone was enjoying cocktail hour, the staff at City Club LA did a rapid “flip”, transforming the ceremony space into a stylish reception venue. Doris and Steven had hired a really great live band who knew how to get the party started, providing the perfect setting for the couple to make their grand entrance while “making it rain” with money.
They hit the dance floor straight away to celebrate with their bridal party, before slowing things down with a more official (and intimate) first dance. This was followed by the parental dances and lively speeches and toasts from their best man and maid-of-honor, then young and old were encouraged to get onto the dance floor to party.
I tried to capture all the action and energy of this celebration, interspersed with the cake cutting at Doris and Steven’s enticing dessert station and some antics in the photo booth. I also asked the band if the couple could get up on the stage to perform with them, which they were more than willing to make happen.
Towards the end of the evening, I snuck out from the reception venue with Doris and Steven to grab some nighttime portraits around City Club LA. We captured a playful shot of the couple collapsing from exhaustion in the comfy chairs of City Club’s cinema, as well one of them kissing beneath a chandelier in one of the elegant hallways.

I want to thank Doris and Steven for giving me the opportunity to capture their beautiful wedding at City Club LA (and to Doris’ maid-of-honor for recommending me) and wish them all the happiness as they embark on this new chapter in life together.
