A selection of wedding photos at Malibu West Beach Club to capture the special day of Misha and Asad, which actually began the night before with a lively Sangeet party at Casa Sanchez in Los Angeles. We met up with the couple again the next morning to document their getting ready in separate suites at Oakwood Marina Del Rey before a romantic first look in the surrounding gardens. They then exchanged vows overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Malibu West Beach Club, then celebrated during a ballroom-style reception with their family who had flown from all over the world.
I first had the pleasure of photographing Misha and Asad for their surprise proposal last December. Asad popped the question to Misha within the leafy residential area of Venice Canals in West Los Angeles, followed up by engagement sessions in Downtown Los Angeles, Venice Beach and along the Santa Monica Beach Pier.
They had planned a two day wedding celebration, including a traditional Indian Sangeet ceremony at Casa Sanchez in Los Angeles, followed by a Western wedding at Malibu West Beach Club. Misha’s family was coming over from the UK to celebrate with Asad’s family who are based in Los Angeles, and it was wonderful to meet their parents and extended family for this occasion. Asad’s mom was particularly sweet to me, ensuring I was always well fed, and I was honored to be a part of this family celebration!
Sangeet ceremony photos at Casa Sanchez:
On the Friday before the wedding day, I drove over to Casa Sanchez, a Mexican restaurant in West Los Angeles, where Misha and Asad were holding the Sangeet. In traditional Indian style it was a really colorful event, with gorgeous saris and lots of music and dancing as Misha and Asad’s family members performed for them. I tried to capture all the color and movement in this selection of Sangeet wedding photos, as well as the couple’s reactions during this special moment with their family and friends.
Getting ready photos at Oakwood Marina Del Rey:
The following day was the western wedding at the Malibu West Beach Club, although they started the day at the Oakwood Marina Del Rey apartments. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous when I heard they were getting ready at private apartments, rather than a hotel, as I was unsure there would be beautiful locations for us to capture their first look session and have a couple portrait session. But I was really pleasantly surprised, with shaded walkways, lots of greenery and nobody around to distract us!
I captured close up shots as Misha had the final touches done to her makeup, as well as some special candid moments between both the bride and groom and their parents. They had decided to do a gift exchange before the ceremony which I photographed, as well as a champagne toast with Misha and her beautiful bridesmaids.
Pre-ceremony portraits at Oakwood Marina Del Rey:
I found a nice shaded spot outside the apartments on a leafy walkway to stage the first look session, with Misha walking towards an expectant Asad. It was a beautiful moment as they had their first glimpse of each other on this special day and I used the opportunity for a short couple portrait session. You could just tell that Misha and Asad were really loved up, with a natural chemistry radiating from them.
Ceremony photos at Malibu West Beach Club:
We then drove over to Malibu for the wedding at the Malibu West Beach Club and I grabbed a quick family formal before the official ceremony proceedings got under way. Misha was led down the aisle by her dad who embraced Asad as he gave his daughter away.
I captured some wide angle shots across their gorgeous ceremony site overlooking the Pacific Ocean, as well as the reactions of their parents as they watched on. After being pronounced “husband and wife” and a grand kiss, they made their recessional walk down the aisle as family and friends showered them in flower petals.
Post-ceremony portraits at Malibu West Beach Club:
It was just approaching sunset and we made the most of the atmospheric lighting conditions during a couple portrait session on the sands of Malibu Beach. I captured some romantic shots of them walking hand-in-hand along the beach, as well as some creative silhouette portraits. While the wedding guests were busy at cocktail hour, we also snuck into the reception room for some portraits in front of their gorgeous sweetheart table.
Reception photos at Malibu West Beach Club:
Then the party really kicked off, with everyone hitting the dance floor to celebrate this union. I tried to capture all the festivity of this vibrant wedding reception at the Malibu West Beach Club in this selection of photos, with the bride and groom obviously having a great time.
Misha and Asad then presented their official first dance, followed by speeches and toasts from both brothers. I captured the reactions of the couple, their parents and siblings, as well as a creative silhouette, followed by Asad’s toast to his beautiful new wife. After Misha’s bouquet toss, everyone hit the dance floor again and I managed to get the entire wedding party together for a group portrait.
Towards the end of the night, I snuck out with the couple for a short nighttime couple portrait session, using an off-camera flash for some creative shots backed by the orange lanterns of the Malibu West Beach Club.
Wedding photos at Malibu West Beach Club:
Having had three opportunities to work with Misha and Asad, I feel like I’ve got to know them quite well and want to thank them for selecting me as their wedding photographer. Their big day at the Malibu West Beach Club was absolutely incredible, and I hope these photos bring back warm memories for them for years to come.
