Wedding photos at Richard Nixon Library to celebrate the special day of Lindsey and Matthew, which was taking place on New Year's Eve. After capturing the girls getting ready at Fairfield Inn By Marriott Anaheim Hills, we documented the couple's glamorous ballroom ceremony at Richard Nixon Library and their reception party with family and friends to celebrate their love and the New Year.
I met Lindsey and Matthew at my home studio more than a year ago and was excited to hear about their upcoming wedding at the Richard Nixon Library. Not only were they going to be celebrating their union but also the New Year, with their wedding scheduled for December 31st.
It was a pleasure getting to know them better during their engagement session at the Griffith Observatory, followed by a nighttime portrait session at LACMA. Needless to say, I was excited to reconnect for this New Year’s Eve wedding celebration at one of Yorba Linda’s most elegant venues.
Getting ready photos at the Fairfield Inn By Marriott Anaheim Hills:
We began the day at the Fairfield Inn By Marriott Anaheim Hills where the couple was getting ready. While my second shooter was with Matthew and his groomsmen in their suite, I was with Lindsey, her eight bridesmaids, mom and aunt as they made their final preparations.
I captured candid shots as Lindsey had the final touches applied to her makeup and was surrounded by her bridesmaids in their black dressing gowns, as well as a black and white as she admired her gorgeous wedding dress. I also documented some special moments as her mom and aunt helped to secure her earrings, followed by her sisters as they assisted with her necklace and bracelet.
We also grabbed some portraits of Lindsey in her hotel suite at the Fairfield Inn By Marriott Anaheim Hills, highlighting the details on the back of her dress, as well as a playful one of her making a call with her “BRIDE” cell phone.
Pre-ceremony portraits at the Richard Nixon Library:
We then made the 5-minute drive over to the Richard Nixon Library where the rest of the day was going to be held, beginning with the first look between Lindsey and her dad. It was an emotional moment as the bride walked towards her father and he wiped away tears at seeing her looking so radiant.
It was then Matthew’s turn, with the first look between the couple being staged in the gorgeous landscaped gardens of the Richard Nixon Library. I photographed Lindsey walking towards her groom and the moment he turned around to see her, as well as the reactions of her parents as they watched on during this special moment.
We used the time available for some portraits of the couple in this beautiful moment, utilizing the lush greenery and picturesque pathways of the Richard Nixon Library gardens. I captured whimsical portraits of Lindsey and Matthew embracing in the late-afternoon light and walking hand-in-hand along one of the pathways, as well as a creative shot of them together beneath Lindsey’s sweeping veil.
With the winter light fading rapidly, we had to work fast to get bridal party portraits and family formals, with the couple requesting creative poses rather than classic shots. I grabbed a portrait of Lindsey and her bridesmaids looking admiringly at the cute flower girl, Tessa, as well as a unique family formal featuring the bride’s side of the family.
Ceremony photos at the Richard Nixon Library:
It was then time for the ceremony to get underway, which was being held in the ornate ballroom of the Richard Nixon Library. Rather than floral features, Lindsey and Matthew had opted for elegant candles and golden finishes in keeping with the New Year’s Eve theme of their wedding.
I photographed Matthew being escorted down the aisle by his mom, with the flower girl, Tessa, and her baby brother following closely behind. It was then Lindsey’s turn to make her appearance on the arm of her dad who had a playful exchange as he gave her away to Matthew.
I documented Lindsay and Matthew’s wedding at the Richard Nixon Library from multiple angles, including a wide-angle incorporating their eight bridesmaids and groomsmen, as well as up-close candids as they exchanged rings and performed a sand ceremony. I also captured the reactions of both sides of their family as they watched on before Lindsey and Matthew sealed their union with a kiss and made a joyous recessional walk down the aisle.
Post-ceremony portraits at the Richard Nixon Library:
While Lindsey and Matthew’s wedding guests were enjoying cocktail hour, we used the time available for some portraits within their gorgeous ceremony venue. I captured shots of them embracing beneath the glamorous chandelier, as well as a portrait of them holding their New Year’s Eve countdown clock.
As the staff at the Richard Nixon Library performed a “flip”, transforming the ceremony space into a lavish reception venue, we went outside for some nighttime portraits around the reflective pool. We captured romantic, off-camera flash embraces and wide-angles incorporating the Christmas-lit trees, as well as a creative silhouette outside the Richard Nixon Library.
We then snuck into the reception space for some portraits before their wedding guests arrived, again incorporating the countdown clock and chandelier, as well as the beautifully designed table decorations. The period portraits, drapes and mirrors within the Richard Nixon Library ballroom gave the space a really elegant and classic atmosphere, with candles illuminated throughout.
Reception photos at the Richard Nixon Library:
Lindsey and Matthew kicked off their reception with a grand entrance, followed by their first dance as “husband and wife”. Speeches and toasts from those closest to them then took place and I tried to capture the reactions of not only the couple at their sweetheart table but also their family watching on.
The cake cutting ceremony was followed by the parental dances, with Matthew and Tessa the first to take to the dance floor to honor their friendship. Lindsey and her dad then shared in a special moment before Matthew and his mom performed their mother-son dance.
Young and old were then invited onto the dance floor to celebrate as the countdown to New Year’s began. I tried to capture all the energy and anticipation of this special evening, with New Year’s Eve hats and tiaras circulating amongst the wedding guests.
As 12AM drew near, the DJ invited everyone to surround Lindsey and Matthew for a group photo as they kissed before counting down to 2018 together. Everyone was in high spirits as the clock struck midnight, with the dance floor absolutely packed. The evening ended with a grand sparkler exit as Lindsey and Matthew departed from the Richard Nixon Library, bringing to close what had been an amazing day and an unforgettable New Year’s Eve party.

I really want to thank Lindsey and Matthew for selecting Aevitas Weddings to capture their New Year’s Eve wedding at the Richard Nixon Library. I know they’re off on a cruise to the Caribbean for their honeymoon, so I wish them an incredible time and all the happiness in their married life together.
