Wedding At Skirball Cultural Center

LEAH & NOAH

Locations:

Wedding photos at Skirball Cultural Center:

Leah and Noah were referred to me by a good wedding planner friend of mine, Brooke Avishay of Orange Blossom Special Events. They actually live out in the Seattle, Washington area but were planning a big Jewish wedding at Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles during the summer. I first got to meet them during a Skype meeting, then in-person when they came down to Southern California for their e-session a few months ago.

I really love capturing Jewish wedding celebrations, but his was extra special as it was at one of my favorite Los Angeles venues – the Skirball Cultural Center. It has this huge courtyard with a pond where ceremonies are held, and rather than use the on-site ballroom, Leah and Noah were opting for the staff to do a “flip” and also hold their reception outdoors under the stars.

Getting ready photos at Skirball Cultural Center:

Everything was being held at the one location, so my wife Charlene and I headed over in the late morning to capture them in their final moments of preparation. While Charlene was with Noah and his groomsmen, I was with Leah and the girls as they had their hair and makeup done and shared in this special moment.

Pre-ceremony portraits at Skirball Cultural Center:

After a first look with her dad, Leah then walked down a set of stairs towards Noah for their first glimpse of each other on this special day. I documented this tender first look moment, then grabbed a few portraits of them before the ceremony was due to start. Noah’s niece had made a photo book for the couple and it was wonderful to document their reactions at this surprise gift.

Ceremony photos at Skirball Cultural Center:

Rather than just a short walk down the aisle, the Skirball Cultural Center has a really grand entrance for the bride, circling above the courtyard then down a staircase and between her wedding guests. After Leah was given away to Noah by her father, the groom performed the “breaking of the glass” in what is a traditional Jewish ritual. The couple looked so in-love as they exchanged vows and said “I do”, before being congratulated warmly by their family and friends.

Reception photos at Skirball Cultural Center:

After the staff transformed the ceremonial courtyard into a romantic reception venue, Leah and Noah were lifted above their wedding guests on the dance floor in the Jewish Horah chair dance. There was plenty of movement and energy to capture during this wedding at the Skirball Cultural Center as they partied under the stars, interspersed with speeches, toasts and the parental dances.
