Wedding photos at Tlaquapaque:
Rachel and Kevin were referred to me by one of my former college classmates Alissa. She was actually getting married herself (also to a Kevin) in around a month’s time and I was honored to be her Southern California wedding photographer. But before her special day arrived, I was also excited to capture this Arizona destination wedding at Tlaquapaque between Rachel and Kevin.
With both Rachel and Kevin based in Arizona, all of our communication had been by email and I was really looking forward to meeting them in person when I flew out to Sedona the day before their wedding was planned. It was a pretty memorable week for me in general as I’d just proposed to Charlene in Mexico (she said “Yes!”) and was high on love myself even before I touched down in Arizona and met Rachel, Kevin and their wonderful family and friends.
Getting ready photos at El Portal Sedona Hotel:
After a rehearsal dinner on the Friday, everything really kicked off on the Saturday morning with the couple getting ready for their special day in separate rooms at El Portal Sedona Hotel. I jumped back and forth between Rachel and Kevin as they made their final preparations, capturing creative angles and silhouette shots, as well as reflective candids and black and whites.
Pre-ceremony portraits at El Portal Sedona Hotel:
They had decided on a first look session which we staged in a courtyard outside El Portal Sedona Hotel, incorporating its rustic architecture. It was a beautiful moment as Rachel lifted her birdcage veil to see Kevin for the first time on their wedding day and we used the opportunity for a couple portrait session of them both looking so radiant.
Ceremony photos at the Sedona Heritage Museum:
We then drove over to the Sedona Heritage Museum, and after squeezing in a few bridal party portraits and family formals, Rachel’s father escorted her down the aisle to an awaiting Kevin. It was an outdoor, garden ceremony and we were really lucky with such gorgeous weather, and I utilized the greenery in some creative candid shots as they said “I do”.
They then made their recessional walk down the aisle and were congratulated by family and friends, before being whisked away to the Red Rock State Park for a portrait session.
Post-ceremony portraits at the Red Rock State Park:
It was late afternoon when we arrived at this iconic park and the sun was illuminating the rocks such a rich hue of red. I captured intimate embraces of Rachel and Kevin in this loved-up moment, as well as a whimsical kiss illuminated by a sunburst.
Reception photos at Tlaquapaque:
We then returned to Sedona and their wedding reception at Tlaquapaque which is a beautiful outdoor market, known for its cobblestone pathways decorative arches. By day it is normally abuzz with craft stores and art galleries, but it can be booked out for private events, just like Rachel and Kevin’s wedding celebration.
They kicked off the proceedings with a romantic first dance, followed by joint parental dances and lots of speeches and toasts from their friends and family. Then everyone hit the dance floor to party beneath the stars, with such perfect weather conditions and warm temperatures. There were lots of special moments to capture, including a playful cake cutting ceremony, tender exchange between Rachel and her dad, as well as all the antics of the bridesmaids on the dance floor!
Wedding photos at Tlaquapaque:
Rachel and Kevin’s wedding at Tlaquapaque was such a beautiful weekend spent with wonderful people and I can’t thank Rachel and Kevin enough for selecting me as their Sedona wedding photographer. I also want to thank Alissa for referring me and am looking forward to reconnecting with all of them again soon when she weds her Kevin in around a month’s time.
