Wedding At Cicada Restaurant

MELISSA & ROBERT

Locations:

Wedding photos at Cicada Restaurant:

I met newly engaged couple Melissa and Rob at my studio in Downtown Long Beach a couple of months before their wedding day. They were planning a classic art deco-style wedding at the elegant Cicada Restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles and were getting ready just a couple of blocks away at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles. I loved the “Old Hollywood” feel that the couple had gone for and I think that same charm was expressed in these photos of a wedding at Cicada Restaurant.

Getting ready photos at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles:

My wife Charlene was working as my second photographer for the day and was with Robert, while myself and my assistant Natalie focused our attention on Melissa and her bridesmaids. There were lots of warm candid moments to capture as she had her hair and makeup done and shared the morning with Robert’s young daughter, as well as some special exchanges with her parents who were obviously very dear to Melissa.

Pre-ceremony portraits at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles:

The couple had decided on a first look session at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles, which we staged in their grand foyer area with its ornate chandelier and ceiling fresco. Although the lighting was quite dark, this allowed us to get creative with off-camera flash during the couple portrait session that followed.

Ceremony photos at the Cicada Restaurant:

We then walked over to the Cicada Restaurant where the ceremony and reception were to be held. I could see that family was really important to Melissa and Robert and there were lots of wonderful candid exchanges to capture between both young and old! The venue is actually quite dark and without windows, but we were prepared with all the right equipment to ensure these Cicada Restaurant wedding photos were well-lit and exude that classic feel the couple wanted.

Reception photos at the Cicada Restaurant:

The wedding guests headed upstairs for cocktail hour and the Cicada Restaurant staff did a “flip”, transforming the ceremony venue into a beautiful reception space. Melissa and Robert began the evening with their first dance, followed by a playful dance between Robert and the other woman in his life – his daughter – who I also captured smearing cake all over his face!

Wedding photos at Cicada Restaurant:

It was a beautiful evening shared between close family and friends, and a wonderful experience to see the union of this new family. I wish Melissa, Robert, and their daughter a life full of joy and happiness as they embark on this new chapter together.
